Richie Righteous' "R.I.C.H" is unquestionably the most underrated hip hop album of 2009 so far, plain and simple. Any fan of the genre would be committing a great disservice against themselves by failing to add this work to their collection.
Richie's love for the savior is clear, and it's refreshing to witness someone fight for the preservation of truth with such a blunt and straight forward approach. "Who You Represent" is composed of a series of razor sharp lines engulfed in a beat that will have you feeling like you're boldly marching towards the front lines of spiritual battle. I am not exaggerating when I say that nearly every single bar that Rich drops in the song is quote worthy.
Also of particular interest to me was Rich's personal testimony offered on "I Need You In My Life." Like a good action movie, the song leaves the listener on the edge of their seat, waiting to hear what happens next. The chorus is exceptional and infuses me with a desire to praise the Lord.
Be sure to give "Resting in Christ's Hands", Can't Take it With You", "What the World Needs Now", Patiently Waiting, and "Salvation 101" special attention as well. Though all in all, the entire album can be played all the way through again and again.
This work does an excellent job of drawing a line in the sand of right versus wrong while also encouraging the listener to give praise to Christ. What more could you ask for? DO NOT - I repeat - DO NOT pass this one up. It has earned a 9.5 out of 10 rating from CHHReview.com (Christian Hip Hop Review - a site where Christian Hip Hop albums are reviewed and recommended.) which also translates to the album being a Platinum Medal Winner. This is no small feat.
